City of Beloit Dubbed a ‘Foodie Getaway’

The city of Beloit has been attracting attention for its seasonal Saturday farmers market—the second largest in Wisconsin—and its burgeoning downtown dining and hotel scene, with new options that just keep coming.

This fall, the Hotel Goodwin opens in a historic building on Pleasant Street, just two blocks from campus. Velvet Buffalo restaurant will be located inside, offering locally sourced small plates, wood-fired pizzas, a wine bar, and a rooftop space. On Grand Avenue, one block south of the Hotel Goodwin, a new restaurant called Truk’t is slated to open this year, with street tacos, tequilas, whiskeys, and craft cocktails. The Blue Collar Coffee Co. is also opening soon, right next door.

In August, Beloit caught the attention of Milwaukee Journal Sentinel writer Jennifer Rude Klett, who reported on the city’s revival as a foodie getaway. “Beloit has become quite the food town,” she wrote. Longtime editor of the Beloit Daily News Bill Barth also commented on Beloit’s transformation. “In a relatively brief period of time Beloit has moved from a threatened, decaying place to a state and regional example of what committed private investors, in partnership with the public sector, can achieve,” he said.
