Rolling in the Waves

Sara Irick’15, of Shawnee, Kan., took this joyful picture in San Cristobal, Galapagos Islands, Ecuador, while studying there last spring. She entered her photo, titled “Rolling in the Waves,” in Beloit’s study abroad photography contest.

“I took this photo on the day before I left Galapagos to remind myself of the beauty I had looked at all semester,” she wrote in her submission. “This beach was the view from the steps of my university. The majestic sea lions in this photo now remind me of the infinite respect for wildlife I developed while living there.”

Next year, this annual student photography contest, organized by Beloit’s Office of International Education, will be named for photojournalist and international traveler Luke Somers’08, who died in Yemen last December.
